SECTION 2.

Mr. Max Müller to Sir Edward Grey.~(Received July 30.)

Peking, July 30, 1910.

(No. 131.) (Telegraphic.) P. MACAO. The Chinese Government have written to the Portuguese chargé d'affaires, suggesting that as all the kidnapped persons have not been rescued from Colowan Island, and that there are still pirates in the island, measures should be concerted by the Portuguese and Chinese Governments for the capture of the brigands without prejudice to the question of ownership.

On the other hand, the Portuguese Legation is in receipt of news from Macao to the effect that the pirates have been successfully dispersed. M. de Brederode is referring to his Government for instructions with regard to the Chinese proposal.
