Chamber of Commerce and Manufactures (Glasgow) to Foreign Office.-(Received July 15.)
Sir,
7, West George Street, Glasgow, July 14, 1910. THE directors of this chamber have had under consideration copy of a communication, dated the 5th current, which has been addressed to you by the China Association, London, on the subject of railway extension in Manchuria, especially with reference to the benefits to British trade and industry which may reasonably be expected to follow the introduction of easier and more rapid means of transport in that country, and expressing the hope that the influence of His Majesty's Government will be exercised in favour of furthering the development of railway enterprise in Manchuria, and of supporting the claims of British industry when legitimate contracts for railway construction are obtained by British subjects, and they unanimously concurred with the views of the China Association, and instructed me to respectfully urge His Majesty's Government to give effect to the views of the association.
I have, &c.
WILLIAM H. HILL,
