Government of Burmah to the Government of India.
February 26, 1910. PLEASE refer to correspondence ending with your endorsement, dated the 27th December, 1909.
I repeat the following telegram received from the consulate-general, Yünnanfu :-----

A duplicate of the following message has been sent to the Minister at Peking. "21st February. Bhamo Tengyueh Railway. At an interview which I had yesterday afternoon with the Viceroy he said that he had already submitted the proposals on the subject to the Wai-wu Pu, and that as soon as he received a reply he would let me know what they were. I repeated all the arguments political and commercial in favour of the line, explained fully the Government of India's plans for a narrow gauge railway reproductive work[s], and suggested, subject to confirmation by Government, the construction of the whole line on a joint Government basis, each side furnishing half the capital, and receiving half of the profits. The Viceroy would not commit himself to a definite expression of approval, but seemed to be pleased with the idea."

Sir Edward Grey to Mr. Max Müller.
Foreign Office, April 9, 1910. ON the 26th February last, I communicated to the Secretary of State for India a copy of Sir J. Jordan's despatch No. 483 of the 24th December, 1909, reporting that he was keeping the question of the Bhamo-Tengyueh Railway before the Chinese authorities.
1 transmit to you herewith a copy of a letter which I have now received from the India Office,* enquiring as to whether it would not be possible to urge the Chinese Government to expedite a settlement and to fix a date by which His Majesty's Government may expect to receive a final answer from them, and I request that you will inform me how the question stands at present.
I authorise you to take such action as you are able with a view to pressing the matter forward.

April 5, 1910. MY secret despatch dated the 24th February. Consul-general at Yünnanfu inform[s] Burmah Government that French railway was opened to traffic on the 1st April.
