Tish reference to your telegram No.1 Treaty of the

15th instant, and my telegraphic reply of the 17th, I have

the honour to transmit to you herewith copy of a despatch

from His Majesty's Consul General at Canton respecting the

rendition to the Fongkong Authorities of a "hinese resi-

dent in the leased territory, who is implicated in the

murder,

within the confines of that territory, of two

Indian polloemen, and who escaped across the horder to

China, where he was arrested and is now in custody.

The points at issue in the case are clearly set forth

in the correspondence which passed between Yr.Jamisson

and the Viceroy. The Tonzul General demanded the surren-

der of the man on the rounde that Great Britain had sole

jurisdiction in the leased territory, that the crime was

committed within such jurisdiction, and that the accused,
