possible that the forfeiture of service for the period
in question might result, not in a mere postponement
of the officer's retirement, but in a reduction of
the pension that he will earn if he remains in the
Indian Army until required to retire under the age
rules.
In order to minimise the possibility of further
difficulties arising from this case, I am to request
that a communication may be sent to Captain Taylor
without delay, informing him that, should his absence
from India extend beyond one month from the date on
which the communication reaches him, such further
period of absence will, unless contribution is paid
in respect of it, not count as service for Indian
pension. Unless therefore, the Colonial Government
or some other authority, can be induced to pay the

contribution, or the Officer is prepared either to
pay it himself or to forfeit service for pension, he
should return to India without delay.
