I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

Cay your letter No.2171/1909-10 of the 12th February respecting

the request made by Mr.E.S.Lindsey, Chief Resident Engineer

on the Kowloon Canton Railway that he may be granted the

same house allowance as was drawn by Mr.Eves, and to inform

you that there is nothing 14 our correspondence with Mr.

Lindsey relating to this allowance, nor can we remember that

the matter was raised at any of our conversations with him.

I enclose a copy of a letter which we have received

from the Consulting Engineers in reply to our enquiry

as to whether any statement had been made to Mr.Lindsey by

them.

3. The question was considered by us and the Consulting

Engineers whether Mr.Lindsey's agreementshould provide for

the consolidated allowance of £200 per annum drawn by Mr.

Eves and it was arranged that it should provide for a

travelling allowance or expenses only, as embodied in

clause 6 of the agreement.
