I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 2nd February No.663/1910 and to report that we have ascertained from the Chartered Bank of India Australia and China and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation that the amount of notes which the Banks had in circulation in the Straits Settlements on the 31st December last was $430,380 and $61,170 respectively.
2. I enclose amended valuations of the securities held against the note issues of the Banks based on these figures, and I also enclose copies of the letters which we have received from the Banks in the matter.
