Hon. Mr. W. Chatham, C.M.G.,

Director of Public Works,

sir,

Ec...

I have the honour to request that you be

good enough to recommend to His Excellency the Officer Administ-

-ering the Government that I be placed, as from 1st. January

next, on a scale of pay befitting my position and duties as

First Clerk in this Department and approximating the salaries

of other clerks ossypying similar positions in the Colonial

Government Service.

My salary at present compares unfavourably

with that enjoyed by many a First or Senior clerk in other de

partments, some of whom are junior to me in service; the

cast

salaries in their range from £300

£345 to £360 - £450 per xxxm

annum. My duties are, I believe, as onerous and as exacting as

theirs, this I am able to say from personal experience of some

of the posts referred to.

I trust that, as I have always takon a

whole-hearted interest in ry work and have invariably given satisfaction, as papers on record go to show, His Excellency

will be as justified in granting, as you are warranted in rem

-commening, this my application.

I have etc.,

(sd.) F. Jplyan,
