I forward herowith the notes of evidence

taken on the Inquiry into the charges against Li Tak Yung.

In my opinion the first two charges were

In regard to the third charge there was no

evidence before us to show that Mr. Lei Tak Yung was to receive any pecuniary gain from the action in question. Mr. Goldring,

the Solicitor for the plaintiff in the action, said that he

(Lei) introduced the parties but he admitted that me might have

the benn jinterpreted for them although he had added he appeared to be "greatly excited" at one of the interviews.

Lei also called 2 of the parties interested

in the case who stated that he had no interest in it. It is

doubtful whether these 2 witnesses are to be believed but in the

absence of direct proof in support of the charge I am unable to

aver that it has been proved other than the fact that he waS present and taking some part in the interviews at Mr. Gold-

-rings.

As regards charge (c).

Loi Tak Yung's own witness Chan Toan Tong stated that before the case in question, they had only exchanged

and that he was related to one of his fokis.

From Mr. Goldring's evidence Lei Tak Yung was spokesman, he did not interpret from the Chinese of the plaintiff, that is it was not pure interpretation but rather Mr. Lei Tak Yung laid the case before theSolicitors from previous knowledge. Every time the parties came IF. Lei was the spokesman, there was no evidence to show that Mr. Goldring's interpreter
