Tak Yung. I remember Mr. Hastings's case before Police Court. I daw Lei Tak Yung at that time in my office. He spoke to me. He
said "Chau's case is being tried up there: we have known each other for so long can you say something to Chau on ry behalf ? Chau is concerned in the Hastings case and if he does not run away I will get into trouble. That was all he said. I asked him why do you want him to tun away. He did not answer me. On the same day he said"please go to speak to Chau". Chau was my #chool mate and a close friend of mine. I went and spoke to
Chau owing to what he told me.
Cross-examined:-
It took place about three or four days after
your arrest. I do not know that Mr. Vekemen had sent for you.
It was before Chau's arrest about one or two months before Chau's arrest you did not tell me John Hastings wanted anybody to refund the money. You did not tell me. Hr. Hastings said if he got the money he would put things alright. You said no- -thing about J. Hastings. The conversation was three or four days after you were charged. I have spoken the whole truth. I do not dwar to help him and he swears to help me. You did not find fault with me for doing Chau's work instead of my own. I sometimes dined with Chau before his arrest and you did not ask me to drink with you instead of with Chau so as to avoid
suspicion
