Requisition 1029: Indent No. 62 (18).
• YTS$97393 IstwoIo9
sir,
With reference to your letter No. 1746/07 dated the 20th. June, 1910, respecting the delay which occurred in the delivery of the steel structural work ordered of the Hors -schay Company, Limited, in pursuance of the above noted indent, I have the honour to inform you that we have already in our letter of the 7th. January last explained how the delay occurr- -red, and we can only add that we did all in our power to keep the contractors up to date and advised the Colonial Government from time to time when delay seemed likely to occur.
2.
The contract for the market would, hôžever,
appear to have been let before the Coloniel Government had been advised that the order for the steelwork had been placed on this side; and, with ** reference to the third item in Mr. Fisher's
we would point out that the note at the foot of the form of advice of orders placed contains a warning that the contract period is often exceeded for various reasons and can only be taken as approxirate.
Honourable
The Colonial Secretary,
Hongkong.
I have etc.,
(sd.) . H. Mercer.
