to this they rent Marine Lots 113 and 114 from private
owners area 39,074 square feet, frontage about 200 feet,
but this frontage is dry at low tide. The rental of this
area dates from November, 1909, and I was unaware of it.

only be coaled from these depôts by lighter. The Company
I am informed have not yet decided what they will do with
their present lots in the event of their acquiring the new
site applied for, and it is stated to be probable that they
will use them for storing their own general merchandise,
but there is of course no guarantee that they may not
retain them or use them at any time as additional coal
depôts.
In reply to enquiries I have made
I learn that this firm has generally in stock some twenty
to thirty thousand tons of coal at their own (Yaumati}
depôt with some two or three thousand tons more on the
rented area. The maximum amount they can store is about
35,000 plus 3,000 tons, but they occasionally have as much
as 50,000 tons in stock, in which case they rent additional
ground for the temporary storage of the excess. The amount
