expenditure account sent to him here. This may be assumed

to be roughly one-fifth of his working time per annum. His

total emoluments are £900 per annum of which 250 is paid

by Teihaiwel. The proportion in lieu of this £50 would

therefore appear to be £170. In addition that Colony should

of course be responsible (as now) for the cost of his

passages and for the proportionate part of his pension.

In accordance with Your Lord-

-ship's instructions a non-pensionable personal allowanco

of £100 to the Local Auditor has been included in next

year's estimates, but as it is our Lordship's opinion

(paragraph 5) that not only this sum but oven the present

pay of the Auditor is in excess of the remuneration which

is adequate for the post I trust that the recommendations

in my preceding paragraph may be given effect to.
