As regards examination of masters, mates and
engineers, in 1909 there were 103 examinations and 69 for
officers of launches, a total of 172 or less than 15 a month.
various returns are made out, chiefly from the Board/Officers
returns. The duties, performed by Mr. Fung Sze Fong are purely
clerical.

When visited these officers appeared to have very
little to do. The issue of stationery and stores should be
placed under the Accountant Mr. Chan Pui. One good clerk should
be able to do all the work of this section with occasional
assistance.
(3). Junk Office.
The Junk Office, or Chinese Office, is situated on the
Ground Floor. The staff is Mr. McIver (Ir. Lenfestey acting
during absence) two shroff clerks, Messrs. So let Tai and Tai
Win Tak and two Chinese writers, Ip Tong and Cheung Chuen.

r. McIver's duties are General supervision, Passing

cargo boats, passenger boats etc., the duty average number being 20 per working day. These licences have to be taken out
some half-yearly, some yearly.
