enquire and report on the following matters arising out of a
confidential report on the General Office and the Junk Office
in the Harbour Department, copy of which is enclosed and obt
of considerations suggested by the report:-

certain matters commected with the Harbour Department, and to
inform you that your joint report is desired on the following
questions arising out of the enclosed report on the General
Office and Junk Office in the Harbour Department and out of
considerations suggested by that raport:-
(1).
whether the reductions in Staff in the
(a) General Office
(b) Junk Office
(c) Clearance & Entry Office for steamers with due regard to efficiency, be made.

Whether the European First Clerk has sufficient clerical duties and duties in connection with emigration to fully occupy his time.
