Courts of Appeal sat in Penang from Monday 22nd. February to Monday 1st. March 1909 disposing of 7 appeals, and from Monday 15th. August to Wednesday 8th. September 1909 dispos- -ing of 22 appeals. The total number of days during which the

Criminal

Court of Appeal was occupied in hearing appeals was 24. Assizes ocoupled 47 days. 80 prisoners were tried of whom 42 were convicted and 25 acquitted, and against 13 the Public Prosecutor entered a nolle prosequi. Details are given the Indictment Table I and the Comparative Table VIII from which it will appear that both the number of persons tried as well those convicted is the largest since 1906.
