The practice is for the Judges to sit all

=

the morning of the 1st. day of the month and arrange the General Cause List for the month such case days being Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays the chief Justice takes summonses in Chambers, Motions, and Petitions the Puisne Judge dealing with contested probate matters Judgment Surmonaes and Appeals from Magistrates. On Fridays the chief Justice takes summonses in Chambers and Interpleaders on any adjourned work. The Puisno Judge sits in Bankruptcy.

The Assizes are taken by arrangement bot- -ween the Judges but generally by the Chief Justice when the

other Judge deals with the whole of the Civil Work.

Penang.

In Penang the work is distributed as follows:-

Mondays.. .......Surmons in Chambers, Motions, Petitions, Probates

and Administrations where contested, Magistrates

Appeals and Judgment Summonses, This is the

usual Monday's work but sometimes a Civil Suit

is also taken in the afternoon when the other

work finishes earlier than 4 p.m.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays...................Civil Suits.

Thursdays..

!......Summons in Chambers and Bankruptcy. This is the

usual Thursdays work but frequently the after-

-noon are devoted to specially fixed motions or

part heard cases.

When two Judges are sitting, one of the

Judges takes work as above and the other devotes all his time

to Civil Suits but the distribution of work is always subject

to mutual arrangement by the Judges and subject also to arrangements with Counsel who may be engaged in both Courts.

At Penang the Registrar fixes the daily

list for each week on the Saturday previous when all Counsel are

present
