inclosure
Enclosure 2.
238
1905.) I enclose a plan of the original site and the
extension. The total area is 16,495 square feet including
an area of 1,152 square feet which is an encroachment on
Municipal Land and is set apart for widening the road
when opportunity occurs.
3.
The cost of the
original build-
-ing completed in 1875 was $15,853.95: and the cost of the
extension completed in 1906 was $25,381.35. I have had a
valuation of the buildings made by Messrs. Tarrant and
Morriss of Shanghai whose report dated the 7th. instant
(a copy of which I enclose) gives the following values:-
Old buildings, Taels 16,000
New buildings, Taels 18,000
-
Total
$21,768.71
$24,489.80
$46,258.51.
This shows that the value of the buildings has appreciatod
and is more than the sum actually paid for their construct-
-ion, this being partly due, no doubt, to the great fall in
the value of silver.
4.
I shall be glad to learn whether
the Imperial Government is prepared to take over the
buildings from this Colony at the value assessed by
Mossrs.
