There are numerous leper settlements in the neighbouring

Province of China and it is proposed to give the inhabi-

-tants of the Au Tau Settlement the option of removing to

China or of submitting to confinement. It is anticipated

that they will elect the former alternative. In that cane

the provision of a Leper Asylum will not be necessary at

present.

Heretofore it has been the

practice by arrangement with the Chinese Authorities to

deport to Canton, near which there is a Leper Settlement

Chinese aliens who are found in the Colony affected with

leprosy. It is proposed to continue this practice and

power has been taken under Section 14 accordingly.
