I have the honour to confirm ray telegram
of the 27th, instant which was as follows:-
*With reference to Jamieson's despatch 29 18th.
August, Sassoons inform me that chests of opium in question were shipped from Hongkong to Tsang Sheng and Loongmoon direct under transit certificate after payment to Chinese Authorities in the Colony duty likin. Purchase of opium in question has not been made at the place where Kwong Yun Firm has offices. As far as I know there are no regula- -tions compelling raw opium to pass through places at which there are Kwong Yun Offices. Requests you will be good enough to demand release of these two chests of opium and of twenty opium balla seised
Samshui."
and to forward for Your Excellency's information the enclosed
