RECR Government House, Bro2 1 OCT 10]

Hongkong, 25th. August, 1910.

My Lord,

Before Sir Frederick Lugard went

on leave, he approved of an endeavour being made to raise

money for building an Anatomical Laboratory for the Hong-

-kong University by an appeal to the Chinese guilds of the

Colony.

2.

This appeal has been made, and

the Registrar-General reported on the 9th. ultimo that a

sum of $14,365 had already been placed to the credit of an

Anatomical Laboratory Fund with the Hongkong and Shanghai

Bank, and that enough had been collected, though not yet

paid in, by the Treasurer of the Pawnbrokers Guild to

make a total of $15,000. The Colonial Secretary discussed

this matter with Dr. Ho Kai and the Registrar-General on

the 22nd. ultimo, and it was agreed that $25,000 could

safely be reckoned on as the total sum which the sub-

-scriptions might be expected to reach. I am, therefore,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

THE EARL OF CREWE,
