With reference to my Despatch

No. 272 of the 11th. instant in which I forwarded certain

Supplementary Votes for Your Lordship's sanction and to the

item which formed the subject of Financial Minute No. 60,

I have now the honour to inform you that in connection

with the establishment of an Observation Station at Lai-

-chi-kok which was reported in Sir F. Lugard's Despatch

No. 144 of the 27th. May, 1908, it has been found desir-

-able to build a permanent Hospital with quarters for

Medical Officers attached, in case the necessity of

occupying the Observation Station should arise, for the

reception and treatment of persons confined in the

Observation Station who might fall sick. This necessity is

the more urgent now that the Hospital Hulk Hygeia has been

abolished

she was sold last year for $25,000.
