Enclosure!..
In continuation of my Confidential
Despatch of the 5th. instant, I have the honour to form
-ward the correspondence specified in the annexed schedule,
from which Your Lordship will observe that the situation
with regard to the Opium Trade has further deteriorated
and that a point has now been reached when the native
merchants express themselves afraid to deal further in
foreign Raw Opium. The protests of His Britannic Majesty's
Chargé d'Affaires at Peking and of His Britamic Majesty's
Consul-General at Canton have been entirely ignored by the
Government of the Liang Kuang Provinces.

I take this opportunity of con-
-firming my telegram of the 11th. instant, copy of which
is enclosed, and of forwarding the annexed copy of a
letter of the 10th. instant from the Manager of the
indosure 2. Enclosure 3.
