Despatch of the 21st. ultimo, I have the honour to inform

Your Lordship that the operations against the Chinese

pirates in Colowan have been terminated by the Portuguese

troops with the following results:-

The success of the operations Was

marred by the occurrence of a typhoon during the period of

blockade of the Island, which enabled a number of the

pirates to escape by junk while the blockading vessels

had to seek shelter.
