To act as First Assistant to the D. P.

and in the absence of the latter, to act as Director of Public

Works, with probable appointment as Member of Executive and

Legislative Comcils, Vice-President of the Sanitary Board, &c.

To conduct extensive correspondence with

regard to the matters coming under the control of the Public

Works Department.

To assist in supervising the Staff, consist-

-ing of 7 Executive Engineers, 8 Assistant Engineers, 9 Land

Surveyors, a large clerical Staff, 16 1st. Vlass Overseers,

12 2nd. Class Oversees and numerous subordinate Officers.

The duties of the Department include‡-

(a). The control and administration of the Waterworks

(capacity of storage reservoirs 1,100 million gallons).

(b). The construction and maintenance of Roads and

Bridges.

(o). The construction and maintenance of all Govern-

-ment Buildings numbering about 250.

(d). The construction and maintenance of Praya Walls,

Piers and Lighthouses.

(e). The construction and maintenance of Sewers and

Stormwaters Drains.
