This Ordinance amends the Law of Copyright in this Colony

The Imperial Copyright Act was passed prior to the 5th

April 1843 viz: in 1842 and it is therefore in force in the Colony

so far as it is applicable (Ordinance 3 of 1873 section 5).

Hitherto the owner of the copyright of any book first

published in this Colony had to register at Stationers' Hall before

he could enforce his rights against infringers,

The Ordinance provides for a local Register being estab-

-lished and makes the provisions of the Copyright Act 1842 (5 & 6

Victoria cap. 45) apply mutatis mutandis to the local Register so

that an owner may register either locally in "the Copyright Regis-

X

ter or at Stationers' Hall.
