With reference to paragraph 6 of
Sir F. D. Lugard's Despatch No. 141 of the 27th. of April,
I have the honour to transmit the enclosed copy of a
further letter from Mr. P. W. Goldring, giving cover to one
from the Law Society and to another from Mr. M. J. D. ~
Stephens, on the subject of the use by the Crown Solicitor
for his private practice of the offices provided for him
as Crown Solicitor by the Government.
2.
The Law Society state that in
their opinion such use by the Crown Solicitor is wrong in
principle and calculated to give him an advantage over the
rest of his profession.
3.
The objection on the score of the
principle involved appears to me to be quite academic and
not worth removal at the expense of the taxpayers' pocket,
for an alteration in existing arrangements must lead to
additional
