In reply to your despatch No. 38 of the 14th. instant, I have the honour to inform you that on July 10th., I received from the Acting Governor-General a communica➡ -tion on the subject of my protest dated July 5, with regard to the levy on prepared opium.
His Excellancy therein contends himself with the skatement that he is pressing the Opium Prohibition Bureau speedily to enquire into the matter. When he shall have received their report he proposes to address me again, and I have today written to ask him whether or not it has yet been handed in.
The receipt you were good enough to forward
