that Dr. Jew Hawk is a very capable Doctor who fills his
present position with much tact, I recommend his salary be
increased from £175 to £200 per annum, (that being his
maximum under the scheme recommended in Sir H. A. Blake's
Gov 369953 3699 Despatch No. 422 of the 2nd. September, 1903, and approved
by Mr. Lyttelton in Despatch No. 376 of the 15th. October,
1903.) and that he be permitted to engage in private
practice among the families of the Directors of the Hos-
-pital for the current and for the preceding year, but
not otherwise. The Directors of the preceding year have an
official status in the Hospital and share in the manage-
-ment of it.

Dr. Jew Hawk has been Resident
Surgeon since the 18th. September, 1902, and has given
satisfaction in the performance of his duties. The Princi-
-pal Civil Medical Officer concurs in the suggested in-
-crease of salary. The only objection he has to allowing
limited private practice is that it is not in accordance
with the rules governing the Medical Service.
The case is, however, a somewhat
exceptional one and I recommend that the limited privilege
indicated
