My Lord,
With reference to Your Lordship's
Despatch No. 109 of the 27th. of last April, I have the
honour to forward the enclosed copy of a letter dated the
15th. ultimo which was sent by the Colonial Secretary
under my instructions to the Hongkong General Chamber of
Commerce, together with the reply of the Chamber dated the
16th. instant.

Your Lordship will observe that
the Registrar of Trade Marks, the Attorney-General, the
Crown Solicitor and the Committee of the Chamber of Com-
-merce agree in the view that, so far as this Colony is
concerned, the additional legislation suggested by the
Board of Trade is undesirable, and in these circumstances
I have refrained from taking any further action in the
matter pending reference to Your Lordship.
