My Lord,
In reply to paragraph 3 of Your
Lordship's Despatch No. 100 of the 15th. of last April, I
have the honour to state that Lance-Sergeant A. Counsell
was not a contributor to the Widows' and Orphans' Pension
Ponclosure!
Fund.
2.
I enclose copy of a letter from
the Captain Superintendent of Police to Mr. J. Roper,
dated the 15th. of last March, from which it will be seen
that the sum realized by the sale of Lance-Sergeant
Counsell's effects was insufficient to meet his liabiliti-
-es. In these circumstances I recommended the Legislative
મ
Council to vote a sum of £50 as a Charitable allowance to
the family of the late Lance-Sergeant Counsell, and this
vote was approved of by the Finance Committee of the
Council on the 2nd. instant.
3.
At the request of the Captain
Superintendent
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CREME
