the 31st. ultimo, I am directed to inform you that His Excel- -lency the Officer Administering the Government has received the following telegram from His Britannic Majesty's Charge d'Affaires at Peking dated the 9th. instant.

"Following for Chamber of Commerce. Your #telegram 7th. June. In accordance with instructions from "Foreign Office I have réquested British Consul-General at "Canton to protest against any measures violating treaty rights *secured under additional article to Chefoo Convention".
