Between 5 and 6 he sent down his boy for my wife.

E

He came three times twice I was not there the third time

I was in the shop. My foki told me the Inspector had sent

three times for ry wife. The fourth time the Inspector

came himself with a ratcatcher. I asked the Inspector what

he came for.He said where is the mistress. I said she had

had her rice and gone out. The Inspector asked where she

had gone I said I did not know. It might be to the Theatre.

He suggested going with me to the Theatre to look for her

but I refused. My wife was at No. 45 and as she opened

the door to come out the Inspector chased her - but did

not catch her as she got out of the back door. The ratcatch-

-or advised me to get out because the Inspector was excit-

-ed.

I went to the Hang Fa Lau Eating House and hid

myself on the second floor. All my fokis were frightened.

When I retuned to the shop I found a pane of glass broken.

The Tokis told me the Inspector had told the ratcatcher to

break things. When I returned to the shop the lamps were

allright. The Inspector and ratcatcher had left.

I and my wife reported the matter next day to the

head of the Sanitary Department I wanted him to be re-

-primanded and warned not to do such a thing again.

He has never troubled me since and I have no

reason to suppose he will do so.

The Inspector was not in uniform when he came to

my house everybody knew he was an Inspector.

I have no desire to charge him with any offence

at the Police Court or (1) with procuring my wife to live

with him or (2) for inducing her to procure a girl for him

for immoral purposes.
