Hon. Colonial Secretary,
I attach letter from Mr. Darby asking for
a reconsideration of his application. I consider him the
superior officer and have always put him in charge during Mr.
Rees's absence. I have had every reason to be satisfied with Mr.
Darby's performance of the duties entrusted to him.
I should much regret losing the services
of such an officer as Mr. Darby nor would it be to the advantage
of the Government to let him go when the amount involved is
only £60. It would cost more than that to bring out a man from
home to replace him.
