been now transferred from the District Office at Tai Po to
take Lieutenant Beckwith's place at the Imports and
Exports Office.

Lieutenant Beckwith will draw
only £480 per annum when he finally hands over charge of
the Imports and Exports Office at the end of the current
month, and he has applied to be allowed to draw the maximum
of his substantive post (£540 per annum) as otherwise he
will suffer a loss of £120 per annum by his transfer.
Lieutenant Beckwith becomes entitled to his second in
-crement (£510 per annum) in January next, and in view of
the good and hard work he did in organizing the collection
of import duties on liquor I strongly recommend that he be
allowed the indulgence he asks for.
I have further to recommend that
in view of the fact that Lieutenant Beckwith has been draw-
-ing £600 per annum in this appointment since September
last, Mr. D. W. Tratman may be allowed to draw salary at
the maximum rate of his substantive appointment (£540 per
annum) as from the 1st. of June. Mr. Tratman is at present
on his minimum £420 per annum. but as he is acting as
Assistant District Officer at Tai Po loses by his transfer
the free quarters which he enjoys there and pending Your
