Chambers,

Rro 24 JUN 10

Supreme Court House, Hongkong,

14th September, 1909.

sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your

Excellency's letter No.5810/09 which I have circulated to the Members

and the Secretary of the Squatters Board.

I desire on behalf of my colleagues and myself to thank

Your Excellency for your very kind congratulations on the completion

of our work.

It has been proposed to me that I should bring to the

notice of Your Excellency the very zealous work done by Mr. Rees and

his staff during the last year. All of them must have given up a good

deal of their own time to the preparation of maps and schedules

without which the Board would have had no material to work on.

/

I venture moreover with the full concurrence of Messrs.

Jones & Wood. Mr. Irving the other recently sitting member of the

Board being now absent to suggest for the approval of Your Excellency

the grant to Mr. Rees, on whom the chief burden of the executive

work has fallen, of such honorarium as Your Excellency may think fit,

from any fund that may be available for the purpose.

His Excellency,

I have etc,

(sd) H.H.J.Gompertz.

Sir Frederick Lugard, K.C.M.G.,

Governor, &c.

&c.

&0.

Chairman Squatters Board.
