In reply to paragraph 2 of Your
Lordship's Despatch No. 90 of the 8th. ultimo, I have the
honour to forward the enclosed copy of a letter by the
Chairman of the Squatters' Board dated the 14th. of last
September and to inform you that the Director of Public
Works is of opinion that the amount is moderate for the
services rendered. Prior to December, 1905, the duties of
Secretary to the Board were performed by the Land Officer:
but it was then decided that the conclusion of the Board's
work which had then lasted for 15 years and was still far
from complete would be facilitated by appointing Mr. L. C.
Rees as Secretary.
