I have the honour to forward for

Your Lordship's consideration the enclosed copy of a letter

from the Secretary to the Hongkong General Chamber of

Commerce, dated the 18th. instant requesting that a Trade

Convention may be concluded between this Colony and France,

similar to that already existing between Great Britain and

that Country, with a view to securing that the minimum

tariff rates may be charged in France and its possessions

on goods shipped there from Hongkong.

I have been lent by the Consul for

France in this Colony his copy of a publication printed by

the "Imprimerie Nationale" at Paris in 1908 entitled:-

République Française.
