I have the honour to inform you
that the foundation stone of the University was duly laid
by me in the presence of a large and representative gather-
-ing of the principal people of the Colony both European
and Chinese numbering probably over 1,500 the maximum
for which room could be found.
2.
In accordance with Your Lordship's
instructions I announced the bestowal of the dignity of
Knight Bachelor upon Mr. H. N. Mody by His Majesty the
King. The announcement was received with much enthusiasm
and Sir Hormusjee Mody has requested me to convey to Your
Lordship his most grateful and heartfelt thanks for the
honour which his Sovereign has conferred upon him.
3.
I prepared a Memorandum setting
forth the objects of the scheme, its history, and present
position and prospects, with appendices containing the
