We have to report that Mr. Hirst is at present the worse for drink and unfit for work. On 17th. -
instant Mr. Gibbs visited the Works and did not find Mr. Hirat on the main dam where concreting was going on. On 18th. instant Mr. Gibbs wrote to Mr. Hirst asking him to pay more attention to the work and saying that if from any cause he had to leave the work for a short time he should leave a note with the fore-
-man and if for a long time he should send word in to our office. On 19th. instant (Saturday) on visiting the works between 4 and 5 p.m. Mr. Hirst was not seen. On 22nd. instant Mr. Hirst was found on the work but the worse for drink. 17. D Gibbs cautioned him werbally. On 24th. instant on visiting the works Mr. Hirst was not seen. This morning (30th. instant) Mr. Denison visited the work and found Mr. Hirst in bed drunk and incapable. No explanation has been given of the absences mention -ed above and no Overseers return has been sent in for two
weeks.
