In reply to your letter of the 26th. Inistánt

addressed to the Crown Solicitor, I am directed to inform you

that the discretion in the matter of reduction of the rental,

or cancellation of the grant, of the new Opium Farm provided for

in the Grant, will be equitably exercised by the Governor-in-

-Council.

I am to add that the reservation in the

second proviso referred to, means that a reduction in or

prohibition of the export of opium from India will not par se

and without consideration of other circumstances be accepted as

a reason for the reduction of rent or cancellation of the grant,

as the Farmers may be able to obtain opium from other sources.
