I have the honour to acknowledge

the receipt of your confidential des-

patch of the 9th of March with regard

to the case of Inspector H.J.Knight.

2. I note that the Executive

Council are of opinion that Inspector

Knight's statement that Wong Sam

promised to get him a girl, who was to

come up to his house in the evening,

was not seriously meant. It appears to

me, however, to be almost inconceiv-

able that he should make a statement

of this kind before the Committee of

the Executive Council, without meaning
