In reply to your telegram of the

3let ultimo, I have the honour to state that the Imperial

Maritime Custome has never made any proposal for a tramway

tunnel from the South of the island into Victoria and that

I am at a loss to understand the allusion made to that

department in Your Lordship's telegram.

2.

Chevalier R. Pescio, an Italian

who has on several occasions passed through the Colony,

submitted in February, 1906, a proposal for such a tunne1

and repeated his proposal in July, 1909: but the project

is not at present regarded seriously.

3.

I am not aware of any particular

schemes for the development of Aberdeen.

THE EARL OF CREWE,
