sides of the Kowloon Peninsula.

Your Lordship approved of these

proposals, provided that I concurred in them; and in my

Confidential Despatch of the 26th. of March, 1908, I concur-

-red in the acquisition of the Lots in question, but put

forward, for reasons fully stated in my Despatch, alter-

-native proposals for placing the Terminus either between

Macdonnell Road and Robinson Road (now called Nathan Road)

on Crown Land and the adjoining Kowloon Inland Lot 1140,

or between Robinson Road and Des Voeux Road on Kowloon

Inland Lots 1141, 443,442 and 618.

These proposals were submitted to

the Consulting Engineers who in a report dated the 20th. of

August, 1908, enclosed in Your Lordship's Confidential

Despatch of the 10th. of September, 1908, advised that this

Government should acquire the whole of the private property

involved in my alternative proposals; that the permanent

terminus should be located between Macdonnell Road and

Robinson Road; but that to avoid immediate expenditure a

temporary station might be built on the site recommended,

the whole of the land in private ownership referred to

being nevertheless acquired for future expansion.
