Lockhart's letter of the 20th.March, 1899 as a "aketch map"
showing the northern frontier as delimited by himself and
Mr. Wong. This map is not signed: there is no proof that it
was ever accepted by Mr.Wong or the Chinese Government.
(a) There is no even approximately correct map of the
E, W.& S. frontier of the New Territories which has any
authority.
2.
With regard to the Northern frontier
little difficulty is likely to arise. This frontier was in
the year 1905 marked out by the Public Works Department, from
the sea coast at Shat'aukok to the point from which the Sham
Chun River forms the frontier, with boundary stones inscribed
"Anglo-Chinese Boundary, 1898"; and, although this fact has
never been reported to the Chinese Government, there can be
little doubt that the line as marked on the ground would be
approved by that Government, inasmuch as the boundary stones
accurately follow the line agreed upon between Mr.Lockhart
and Mr.Wong Teun-shin.
3.
The Southern frontier as shown on
the map attached to the Convention is parallel of latitude
22o.91.0" N up to the point on the West where it meets the
island of Tal A Chau, and from that point it turne in a
straight line N.W. till it meets the S.W. tip of Lantao
Island.
