1.
The boundaries of the New Territory are given
in the Convention of 9th June 1898: "The limits of
British territory shall be enlarged under lease to the
extent indicated generally on the annexed map. The
exact boundaries shall be hereafter fixed when proper
surveys have been made by officials appointed by the
two Governments".
2. The "annexed map" shows.
(a) Northern boundary: from the point of
Starling Inlet (Mirs Bay) on the E. to the E. point of
Deep Bay on the West. The waters of both buys are
British territory by the convention.

(b) Eastern boundary: Longitude 114° 30' E.
from the mainland of China to 22° 9' N.Latitude.
(c) Southern boundary: 22° 9 N.Latitude
from 114° 30' B.Long. to S.W.tp of an Island (Tai

A.Chal: from Tai A.Chat to S.W.top of Lantao island.
(a) Western boundary: 113° 52' E.Longitude
from the point where it cuts Lantao Island to point
where it cuts the shore of Deep Bay.
3. The Northern (Land) Boundary was delimited
by Sir (then Mr) J.H.S.Lockhart and Wong Tsun Shin,
duly appointed for the purpose. Their joint memorandum
will be found on page 132 of Eastern 66.
The other boundaries have been fixed by
British officers without the cooperation of the Chinese
authorities.
4. The map anrexed to the Convention is hopeless-
ly inaccurate. The most accurate map of the whole
territory published is that prepared by the War Office
(I.D.1393).*
