With reference to your Despatch

No. 50 of the 6th. of March, 1908, informing me that the

allowancé made by the Transvaal Government to the Registrar-

-General and Harbour Master of this Colony in connection

with South African Coolie Emigration would cease as from

March 31st. of that year, I have the honour to inform you

that the latter Officer has made repeated representations

to me under the following circumstances:-

During the years 1905, 1906, and

1907 respectively, 6, 5, and 8 ships for conveying South

African Coolies were inspected by him, and up to March

31st., 1908, five more. Subsequent to March 31st. eight

more ships were inspected and during 1909 four more were

inspected, the last date being November 8th., and others

are expeeted during 1910.

These inspections are always

performed by himself (unlike ordinary Chinese passenger

ships)
