I have the honour to enclose for
Your Lordship's information copies of the enclosed semi-
-official and official correspondence with the Chinese
Imperial Maritime Customs on the subject of the temporary
engagement of an officer of that service to assist this
Government in organizing that portion of the work of the
Imports and Exports Office which is connected with the
newly established import duties on liquor and to inform
Your Lordship that Mr. Percebois, the officer seconded by
the Inspector-General for this duty arrived in the Colony
on the 13th. instant. He will be paid $440.81 per mensem
together with his lodging expenses, the amount being de-
-frayed from the vote of $60,000 in this year's Estimates
for salaries and expenses of Customs and Excise Staff.
