34. Two test inspections of stores were made during the year with satisfactory results. The Ledger post- ings are kept regularly posted. The locally appointed stock verifier proved so unsatisfactory and untrust- worthy in his work that his services were dispensed

with on September 22nd. The post was filled early this year by a duly qualified man obtained through the Crown Agents and from the results of his work, is

so far very satisfactory.

OURS OF INSPECTION. 35. Periodical tours of inspection have been made to

examine the accounts and stores of the various sub-

divisions. These inspections have been more fre- quent of late owing to better housing facilities.

36. Mr: Alves, who was appointed clerk in this Of- fice in February 1907 was dismissed on January 16th 1908 with the approval of H.E.the Governor owing to hie being most untrustworthy and unsatisfactory in his

work. Mr: A.M.Roza Pereira was appointed clerk in his place on February 1st 1908 with the approval

of H.E.the Governor and yourself.

37. Your representative Mr: F.W.Clarke arrived in Hong Kong on April 15th and during his stay inves- tigated the system of Audit applied to some of the important accounts of this Colony. Every facility was afforded him, and his visit from an official point of view was most beneficial.
