sir,

Gors
I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter No. 22992 of 13th July, 1909 in which you enquire whether my Board of Directors would be willing to agree that the services of Mr.
should E.S. Lindsey, Deputy Engineer in Chief of this company,
be lent temporary to the Hong Kong Government from September next for a period of two years, with the option on both sides of termination of such service after the engineering work in connection with the Canton-Kowloon Railway has been completad
and with a possible further extension of the period if that
#hould be found desirable.
In reply I am directed to say that the Board have no
objection to Mr. Lindsey's services being lent for a period not exceeding two years. Mr. Lindsey is at present on furlough which expires on the 2nd December 1910, but to meet the wishes
of the Colonial Office my Board are agreeable to extend his
leave beyond that date without allowances up to September 1911.
Should this officer's engagement with the Colonial
Office terminate at the close of or within two years from
September 1909, then on such termination (provided the south Indian Railway Company's new arrangement after December Klet 1910 with the Secretary of State admits of it) Mr. LiWÜGY WELL be allowed the option of returning to this company 1é BSTVENO
